I am desperately trying to find Major Alberto Ley Rivas, a Mig 23 pilot from the Cuban Air Force. Maj Rivas we've met briefly once before and then it was only for a couple of seconds at 30000 feet over Southern Angola in September 1987. The encounter at the time wasn't a friendly one but I am hoping that the next time we meet it will be with a lot of laughter and no regrets or remorse.
I am not sure what you are doing now but if flying was as much of a passion for you as it is for me then I am hoping you will get in touch with me. As you can see from this website I am busy building my own aircraft. I plan to fly this aircraft around the world. If it was not for that encounter over Angola many years ago I don't believe I would be in this position to have such an exciting challenge ahead of me and I would like you to be part of it as well. I would like you to come and fly with me. If not for the entire journey then at least I would like to come via your home and we can go for a flight together. You see I carry no grudge or resentment because I know we were both just doing a job. The interesting bit I find amusing is this: There you were a foreign pilot (Cuban) in a foreign country (Angola) flying a foreign built aircraft (Russian Mig 23) vs me a foreign pilot (SA) in a foreign Country (Angola) flying a foreign built aircraft (French Mirage F1) and we were throwing missile at each other and I didn't even know you or hate you! Anyway I don't want us to get involved in any arguement as to who was right or who was wrong or who won or who lost. Its water under the bridge as far as I am concerned. I just want you to come and fly with me! So please can you contact me. |
